Snowflake Photos Round Two

After trying my hand at macro snowflake photos yesterday, I was able to make another attempt when it started snowing this morning.

Here are a couple results from round two. I decided to over-saturate the colors just because I liked the look:

Snowflake #1
Olympus OM-D E-M5. Lens: Olympus 60mm f2.8 with Kenko Extension Tubes. Exposure: ISO 800 f/8 1/13.
Snowflake #2
Olympus OM-D E-M5. Lens: Olympus 60mm f2.8 with Kenko Extension Tubes. Exposure: ISO 800 f/8 1/8.

I’ll be adding more photos to my Macro set on Flickr over the next few days.

Some new thoughts after today:

  • I felt like even without any kind of rail system I was able to focus a lot better after some practice.
  • I desperately need more light.
  • My photos are noisy because of the high ISO, and they’re blurry because of the slow shutter speed.

There’s a good chance that today was the last snow of the season. I’m definitely happy with the results from just two attempts and look forward to improvements next year.
